This does not mean just with your products. You will definitely need to test your products to see if they are viable and sustainable. However, you will also need to test your marketing and advertising strategies.

  • Collect data on which advertising outlets are working and which ones are not.
  • Test your marketing outlets to see which ones provide a greater response.
  • Keep testing, you will eventually come to know the most profitable avenues to promote your products and business … the ones that give you the highest response rate.

The quickest and easiest way to build your reputation is through satisfied customers. Loyal customers attract new customers. Once you have developed a relationship with your current customer base, approach them for testimonials. They may have already given you feedback through an e-mail or personal letter. If so, ask permission to use their comments in your promotional materials.

This tip deals specifically with order processing, but can also apply to business in general.

There are so many scams circulating out there, consumers can be very leery of mail-order businesses. One way to help alleviate their concerns about your legitimacy is to follow through. When you commit to doing something for your customer, be sure you make good on your word and your offer.

The more you do this, the more your customers will trust you. This naturally promotes repeat business.

There really is always something to do when you operate any kind of business. Your mail-order business may not be producing according to your expectations at first, but do not let that cause you to stagnate.

Keep moving and planting seeds into your business. If you feel stuck, then go back to the drawing board. Do some more planning, writing and research.

One way that keeps me from being idle is to use other businesses as a creative catalyst (see Tip #14). As I see them expanding, adding new products or updating their web site, it prompts me to start looking at what more I can do for my own business.

The beauty of a mail-order business is that you can test a product to see if it will work, without putting too much expense into it. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Do not give up on your mail-order venture just because something didn’t work out the first time.

Keep learning and keep trying. Be ready to learn from your mistakes as well as your accomplishments. While you are learning, document your findings in your journal. Who know, it might become a profitable tips booklet later down the road.
